The Holiday Lit Blitz: The Longlist

Updated: Nov 20

Thank you to everyone who submitted to our specialty contest, the Holiday Lit Blitz!

The pieces were judged blindly, without any identifying author information. We loved so many of the short stories, essays, and poems, and it was difficult to whittle down to a longlist of only twenty-four. But here are the twenty-four semifinalists, in alphabetical order:

"A Christmas in Orderville" by Scott Hales

"A Wolfenoot Carol" by Jeanna Mason Stay

"At Cold Harbor" by Scott Hales

"Corn Maze" by Kyra Moon

"d. 11 April 1847 Winter Quarters" by Ali Benson Moulton

"Degrees" by Lehua Parker

"Dinner for Two" by Ilse Eskelsen

"Easter Morning" by Merrijane Rice

"First Easter as a Mother of Six" by Nancy Heiss

"Five Reese's Cups" by Chanel Earl

"Hero of Eden" by Mark Penny

"Hopes and Fears" by Lara Niedermeyer

"La Celebracion" by Mario Montani

"Multiversal Mother's Day" by Annaliese Lemmon

"Tastes of Hope and Sorrow" by James Goldberg

"Thanksgiving's Pre-Modern Origins: True Doctrine!" by Steve Stay

"The History of a Christmas Carol" by Jeanine Bee

"The Last Primary Pageant" by Nancy Heiss

"The Missing Figurine" by Emily Debenham

"Three Saints Days" by Michelle Graabek-Wallace

"Twenty-five Valentine's Days Ago" by Lara Niedermeyer

"Viewing Christmas Displays as a Family, Post-Divorce" by Micah Cozzens

"Vlad Tidings" by Lee Allred

"Yom Kippur 2024" by Alison Moulton

We will announce the twelve finalists next Monday, November 18th.

The finalists will then be published (on our website and our podcast) one per day, from December 2 to December 14, with voting taking place afterward.

Thanks for joining us for the Holiday Lit Blitz!
